What to Expect in Fashion 2025

With Creative Director shake-ups, Victoria’s Secret hosting their legendary fashion show once again, and Alex Consani winning Model of the Year, 2024 has already been a significant year for the fashion industry. As we approach the final days of the month, we’re left wondering what new pieces, staples, and collections we will be tuning in for.

Fashion Month, Fashion Week — the industry never rests! Kicking off the year strong, Fashion Week is set to begin as soon as the new year opens. Starting with Men’s designer wear, Milan and Paris Fashion Week will run from January 17th to 26th, showcasing over 100 designer brands with their latest collections. Milan and Paris are set to ring in the new year with emerging and established designers making their mark.

With creative directors moving from house to house, we’re especially excited to see the creative direction for Chanel in September 2025 under Matthieu Blazy. Known for his extravagant work at Bottega Veneta before his departure, we’re eager to see how he will honor Chanel’s legacy and tradition while bringing a fresh perspective. We hope to see luxury and glamour that reflects the new decade and the year 2025.

Another industry professional we can’t wait to see is John Galliano. After his long tenure at Maison Margiela, it was rumored that Galliano might move to Chanel, but those rumors turned out to be false. Now, we’re curious about where he will go next.

Shifting away from creative directors, award season, galas, and festivals are also upon us.

The Met Gala in 2025 is set to be one of the most memorable events of the year, taking place on May 4th, 2025. This year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, will be co-chaired by ASAP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Pharrell Williams. The theme will examine Black dandyism, a unique form of fashion that makes political statements. Guests will likely wear pieces from Virgil Abloh, LaQuan Smith, Grace Wales Bonner, Pharrell Williams, and other celebrated designers. Expect to see tailored and reconstructed clothing inspired by traditional African wear, with references from across the globe, not just in America. The event will take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The CFDA Awards, a gala recognizing the best in American fashion, is held annually. This prestigious event honors designers, creative directors, journalists, and others who have made significant contributions to the fashion industry. Influencers, A-listers, and industry professionals attend to celebrate outstanding achievements and support emerging talent. Last year’s winners included Marc Jacobs, Willy Chavarria, LUAR, Rachel Scott, and others. We’re especially excited to see Grace Ling and Jane Wade, whose remarkable success in 2024 has set them up for even greater recognition in 2025.

Continuing with award season, we have The Fashion Awards, held by the BFC Foundation in December. These awards recognize British talent and showcase categories such as Designer of the Year, Model of the Year, and Accessories Designer of the Year. 2024 winners include Alex Consani, Simone Rocha, and Jonathan Anderson.

The Cannes Film Festival, the epitome of fashion and film, will take place in May 2025, just a few days after the Met Gala. This glamorous event will bring together our favorite singers, actors, actresses, and influencers, all dressed in exquisite gowns and sharp suits to celebrate upcoming films.

Along with the Met Gala, CFDA Awards, and Cannes, there will be numerous other events throughout the season, including the Grammys, Golden Globes, and Oscars. Fashion enthusiasts will be eagerly refreshing their Twitter feeds to find out who is wearing what.

When it comes to trends,  athleisure will reach new heights, blending comfort with chic sophistication. Sneakers will become more appropriate for ballet classes or tennis matches, while skirts will feature bows, and Puma jackets will be reconstructed for a more fashion-forward look. Athleisure is a trend that’s all about upgrading or upcycling workout gear to create stylish, everyday outfits. Collaborations like Willy Chavarria and Puma are showing how athleisure can be elevated with reconstructed jackes featuring broad shoulders and added padding. This collaboration offers a sneak peek of what’s to come on the streets soon.

A hit in 2024, ballet flats are making their way into 2025 with a twist. Expect sporty ballet flats with lace-up ribbons, thicker materials, and vibrant colors. Brands like Puma are leading the way with these unique takes on a classic style.

In 2025, expect a return to university style—think pleated mini skirts, socialite-inspired looks, and leather bomber jackets. This trend will continue with ties, polo shirts, and classic Ralph Lauren cardigans. It’s a nostalgic nod to college days, reinvented for modern fashion.

The year 2024 brought some of the most unforgettable fashion moments we’ve seen in a while—from Maison Margiela presenting its collection in the streets of Paris with porcelain-like, theatrical models, to Zendaya and Law Roach pulling archival pieces for everyday press events during Challengers and Dune 2. How will these moments be topped in 2025? We’re not sure yet, but one thing’s for certain: we’ll keep you updated through it all.
