Expect to witness a galore of gore in ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’.
It has been 25 years since the release of the iconic film ‘Final Destination’, the movie that kick-started it all. The cultural significance of the franchise has spanned decades, and although 14 years have gone by since the release of ‘Final Destination 5’, the fifth movie in the collection, the buzz around the film has far from flatlined.
‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ revolves around Stefanie, a college student who is transported back in time via a horrific recurring dream that is consuming her life. Her reality is deteriorating, and she heads back home to find someone in her family who may have answers. In true Final Destination style, this is the beginning that kickstarts events that put her family in direct eye line of death. Although it’s a brand new cast, keep an eye out for William Bludworth, played by Tony Todd, who appears in previous movies.
Whilst watching the film, pay close attention to the music; each song is cleverly woven into the fabric of the movie, adding to the theatrics. The Final Destination franchise perfectly executes this, as the film intertwines songs that foreshadow an untimely death. There is a neural connection formed between the song AC/DC ‘Highway to Hell’ and the unravelling events of Final Destination 2. I can’t hear the song without making the connection to the movie, and it has been interlinked ever since watching the film. The same will happen in ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’, and without giving too much away, you’ll never hear the lyrics ‘raindrops keep fallin’ on my head’ in the same way.
If you’re a fan of horror films, this is a must-watch, and the film isn’t for the squeamish. The franchise has left fans wincing since the early 2000s, and if you’ve thought that the film has run out of creative and bizarre ways to die, you are most definitely proved wrong. Expect the unexpected and go in with the outlook that in the Final Destination universe, ‘anything that can go wrong, will go wrong’. A small, insignificant movement, as soft as a gentle breeze, can become the catalyst that leads to a massive chain of events resulting in a gruesome death. The hyper-realistic special effects made the death scenes even more bloodcurdling, and watching it on an IMAX screen left nothing to the imagination.
‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ brings the franchise back to life, reigniting the famous storyline of people who are stalked by death. From the captivating narrative, pockets of humour and intricately detailed death scenes that will unlock a very niche and irrational new fear. It brings the essence of the previous movies and doesn’t lose that charm. The franchise still has room to grow and evolve, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this awakens the prospects of more films in the pipeline.
