Music Industry is the Last Bastion Conquered by Women

World tours, stardom, and killer vocals. Women musicians have been consistently taking the number one spot in music, both on the charts and on world stages. This year’s Grammys were dominated by female talent, including Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Charli XCX. Across the world, we’ve seen the cultural impact women have made through music—from Chappell Roan headlining Lollapalooza and drawing up to 110,000 attendees, to Beyoncé taking over the globe with her Renaissance tour.

Hit after hit, female musicians have taken over a significant portion of the music charts in the past few years. Taylor Swift has secured the highest-grossing tour of all time with The Eras Tour, while Olivia Rodrigo has become one of the youngest artists to land in the top 20 best-selling tours worldwide. By connecting deeply with their audiences, female artists have found themselves at the top of the touring world, delivering messages that resonate with the lives of the fans that listen to their music.

Empowering women across the globe, singers like Shakira, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, IU, and many more have made it their mission to stay connected to issues affecting their communities, their personal lives, and the fight against stereotypes. Songs such as IU’s “Celebrity” promote self-love and encourage women to embrace their unique features and personalities. Breaking language barriers and spreading love, many fans feel seen and understood by this song. Similarly, Karol G’s hit “Oki Doki” blends empowerment and embraces women to feel better after leaving toxic relationships from their past, reassuring them they are better out without them, her song empowers.

Not only have solo women musicians made their way to the top of the charts, but popular girl groups have as well. Acts such as Blackpink, FLO, KATSEYE, and NewJeans are introducing a new, revolutionary music scene. These groups have become global sensations, gaining new fans every day.

What makes these tours so unique is their ability to create a safe space for women. During Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, women exchanged friendship bracelets in tribute to her iconic lyric, “Make the friendship bracelets,” sparking new friendships through music and creating memorable moments—not just within their age group, but across generations. At Girl Group K-pop concerts around the world, fans often unite before the show to give out freebies, which consist of fan-favorite handmade items like stickers, plushies, and photocards. Many also join in dancing to their favorite group’s songs or make new friends to hang out with after the concert ends.

These concerts aren’t just about the show; they’re about the community that’s created through the experience. Being able to sing, dance, and feel safe among others who understand and relate to the music makes it even more meaningful. There’s a sense of sisterhood at every female-led concert. You can see it in the generations present— from grandmothers to grandchildren, from ages 13 to 55—these spaces unite women in ways few others can. Whether it’s a group of friends or a mother bringing her daughter to her first-ever concert, female artists open new ways to relive youth, feel special, and experience a powerful sense of togetherness.

These moments didn’t magically appear out of nowhere, icons such as Madonna, Celine Dion, and Lady Gaga are known to be pioneers of building pop perfection, sold out tours around the world. With Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour grossing over $408 million dollars, to Celine Dion’s “Taking Chances World Tour” grossing over  $279 million dollars, the pop star set a few records and opened spaces for women that hadn’t happened before. Encouraging female empowerment, self acceptance, and love, these women broke male dominated spaces that others hadn’t done before.

Women are constantly changing how they see and shape the world, especially as they take over the pop landscape. Not only are pop stars like Sabrina Carpenter rising to the top, but R&B artists such as Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla are also making major waves in the music scene, showcasing that music is uniting women more than ever before. Topping streaming platforms and charts, selling out stadiums, and creating movements unlike anything seen before, women are set to continue dominating the industry—and we can only expect more in the foreseeable future.

The movement of seeing communities come together through music has become a new form of stress relief in troubling times across the world. Foreign bands have united fanbases that not only love them for who they are but are also willing to learn new languages to better understand their music and culture. Almost as if uniting cultures, the impact these groups have made is truly remarkable. Girl groups to keep an eye on include popular acts like XG, a Japanese group that writes English music and explores different genres such as R&B, pop, and techno. Conexion Divina is an up-and-coming sierreño girl group known for their powerful vocals. They are breaking boundaries within regional music, a space that has traditionally been male-dominated.
