Genre-blending duo Rio Kosta have officially announced the release of their highly anticipated debut album, Unicorn, set to arrive on July 18th. The announcement comes alongside the drop of the title track and new single, an emotionally radiant and sonically rich preview of what’s to come.
Unicorn was born from a serendipitous encounter between Mike Del Rio and Kosta Galanopoulos during a festival soundcheck. What began as an impromptu session led to an undeniable creative chemistry and the spontaneous creation of the album’s title track. As Del Rio recalls, “What’s on the recording is the actual first time we ever played in the room together… We were going to rework it, but wanted to honour the spirit of that first session.”
The album promises a kaleidoscopic journey through influences like Jorge Ben, Ebo Taylor, War, and The Beatles, merging psychedelia, funk, disco, R&B, and Americana. Much of it was recorded in Del Rio’s storied studio, Hotel Havana—a space that once hosted legends like Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock.
To celebrate the release, Rio Kosta will perform two intimate album launch shows: July 16 at Zebulon in Los Angeles and July 18 at Zey Zey in Miami. Unicorn will be available across digital platforms and as a limited edition vinyl.
