If you can briefly describe the McQueen show, you would say it was a heartfelt production. “Lub-DUB” is the sound of a heartbeat in the background that runs through your ears, mind, and heart as you prepare to see the late Alexander McQueen’s influence. While the infamous designer is no longer here in the physical, his heartbeat runs through the fashion veins of his line.
McQueen hosted a Fall-Ready-to-Wear Season 25 show given by Seán McGirr, McQueen’s creative director. Held in the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France – the show left nothing but McQueen’s impact on the runway floor. A Victorian-inspired collection stepped out of a futuristic mirror and onto the platform. Maybe this was a portal from the past coming to grace the audience with period pieces in a modern way, but one thing is for sure: you felt you were in for a ride. Models strutted onto the runway in different pieces and collections based on colors or fabrics. One by one, they gave a determined look to own the show in whatever they were wearing.
A black-tailored woman’s longline coat was the first ensemble that stormed into the audience—an all-black collection mixed with coats, sheer tops, and skirts. An ode to the Victorian period, the collection was big on ruffled necklines and bell sleeves. Throughout the show, lace debuted and stayed on trend in tights, blouses, and skirts. Giving a subtle disposition to the ruffles and big collars. Fuchsia became the lady of the night. Fuchsia a-line dresses with big fluff collars stole the hearts of the audience. Accessories like doctor bags (duffles used in the plague) or bags with a ball and chain highlighted the assortment. Blinged-out colorful masks made an appearance on models’ faces as well.
The color was a focus and not shied away from. From Fuchsia to midnight purple in collar necks to ruffled skirts and boots with fringe. Red with mini dresses but big billowy shoulder pads and sleeves. A collection that went there with color refreshed audiences’ eyes. As the audience glued to every piece, what better way to end the show than a coronation piece or two? Gold studs and emblems stood out in men’s and women’s jackets, creating a Royal illusion. The women’s longline coat swept the floor as it exited with a train carried in gold studs. It was a closing that filled the hearts of many McQueen fans.
