Odile Ohms introduces herself with “Don’t Give It Wings”, the first single from a forthcoming series of releases that will lead into her debut EP later this year. The track marks the beginning of a more defined artistic chapter for the New York–based songwriter and pianist.
The song explores how early experiences of being hurt or misunderstood can shape the way we see ourselves and others. It focuses on the moment those patterns become recognisable—when reaction turns into something learned, and potentially something repeated. “I think stability is most important during your teenage years, and for me, that was when everything was uprooted,” Odile says. “When your world catches fire and you can’t stop it, you start to believe that’s your life… ‘Don’t Give It Wings’ is about catching that lie before it learns how to fly.”
Musically, the track leans into contrast, pairing a textured, guitar-led arrangement with a light, distant vocal delivery that adds tension and restraint. That balance of emotional weight and softness reflects the wider project, which draws heavily from personal memory without forcing resolution. Shaped by a background in violin, church choir singing, and a childhood surrounded by piano, Odile’s work is grounded in lived musical experience, setting the tone for a deeply personal EP to come.
