Peak Winter: 8 Jackets  You Need Right Now

Here we go peak winter

This February the UK is still locked in winter’s grip – with the Met Office warning of fresh snow on higher ground in northern England, Scotland and even parts of Northern Ireland .  Heading for the Alps, the Rockies or the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics ( 6–22 Feb) ? You’ll want a jacket that’s as warm as it is stylish. Below, eight unisex puffer and parkas to keep you toasty from the ski slopes to the streets.

Thom Browne – Poly Tech Down Filled Armband Coat – £3,110: A super-long, minimalistic parka built for blizzard-proof wear. It’s cut from Thom Browne’s technical “Poly Tech” fabric (a stiff, gabardine-like nylon) and fully padded with white goose down for Arctic-level warmth . The coat has a drawcord hood, storm cuffs and even hidden grosgrain trims at the vents, but its look is unmistakably clean and luxurious. In other words, this hooded parka is part snowboard essential, part runway show – perfect if you want to stay warm without sacrificing style

Alexander McQueen – Skull Jacquard Puffer Jacket – £1,340: A subtly gothic black puffer that wears McQueen’s flair on its sleeve (or chest, rather). It’s a boxy, short-hip length down jacket in matt nylon, but the twist is the all-over jacquard skull motif woven into the fabric. In low light it’s almost invisible, but in sunshine you catch hints of the skull pattern gleaming through. With a high stand collar and clean zip-front, this jacket feels both luxurious and laid-back. The high-fill power down insulation makes it surprisingly bulky-warm – you’d never guess from its simple front look that it’s loaded with warmth.

The North Face – X SKIMS 1996 Nuptse Jacket – £360: A modern take on a 90s outdoor icon, reborn in collaboration with SKIMS. This puffer is cut in TNF’s classic boxy Nuptse shape, with oversized baffles and a high funnel neck. It’s filled with recycled goose down for reliable insulation, and the exterior shell is windproof with a PFC-free DWR finish for light rain. In short, it’s a timeless ski-jacket silhouette, updated for today’s streetwear and made to keep you cozy on and off the mountain. (Fun fact: this style was relaunched as part of last year’s The North Face x SKIMS collab – expect all eyes on that spiral-logo tag.)

Represent – Funnel Neck Puffer (Dune) – £225: A sleek, streetwise puffer jacket in a warm sand-beige tone. Its standout feature is the high funnel collar – a sculptural neck-warmer that easily tucks up around your chin for extra protection. Filled with duck down and a dash of feathers, this jacket is insulated enough for frosty mornings, yet light enough not to weigh you down on the chairlift. The neutral dune color means it pairs with any ski outfit, from neon gore-tex to your favorite woolies.

Wooyoungmi – White Knit Goose Down Vest – £813: A hybrid puffer-meets-sweater that’s ideal for layering. This knit-front vest is stuffed with fluffy goose down, trapping heat without bulk. It offers cosy warmth up the front while the back and arms stay slim-fitting, making it perfect for spring ski-sweeps or après-ski drinks. The cream-white knit adds a chic, textured twist to classic down insulation – think a cozy sweater that can stand up to serious cold.

J.Lindeberg – Woody Jacket (Moonbeam) – £520: A hardcore ski jacket designed to take on gales and powder. J.Lindeberg’s Woody Jacket has 20K waterproofing and 20K breathability, so it sheds wind and snow like a pro . It also features built-in snow skirts, underarm ventilation zips and fleece-lined hand pockets – little details that make a big difference on a long day in cold weather . In a contrasting black-and-cream Moonbeam colorway, this jacket looks sharp on the slopes. It’s a bestseller for a reason: every element (from the high collar to the adjustable hood) is engineered for fast laps and frigid summit climbs .

Montane – Polaron XT Hooded Down Jacket – £300: A high-performance expedition jacket at a mid-range price. The Polaron XT is built for “off-mountain” adventures where you need max warmth that packs small. It uses Montane’s premium 750-fill recycled down (with gold-infused ExpēDry treatment) to stay warm even if it gets damp, and a windproof, downproof Pertex Quantum shell to block chilling gusts . It’s cut extra-long with a snug hood and deep hand-warmer pockets to trap heat. In practice, it’s a go-to belay-layer that’s light enough to stuff in your pack but warm enough to wear solo on bitter days

Moncler – Bretagne Hooded Short Down Jacket – £2,015: An Italian-made puffer classic. Moncler’s short Bretagne jacket has a smooth matte finish and a cocoon-cut silhouette with big front pockets, a protective hood and the brand’s signature quilted warmth. It’s stuffed with a 90/10 down–feather blend and treated for water repellency, so stray sleet and drizzle bead right off. Think of it as a short parka with generous insulation – ideal for urban winter chills or cheering at cold-weather events. (It’s roomy enough to layer over chunky knits, and its beige shade – called “Elmwood” – goes with everything from snow boots to city boots.)
