“‘Who Was I To Want You’ is about a relationship coming to an end, with the realisation that it was toxic and unhealthy from the start. You start to see that the feelings were never truly reciprocated, but you had rose-tinted glasses on and couldn’t see quite how bad it was.”
Hailing from Reading, Cameron Hayes was introduced to music from a youthful age. Learning to play piano as young as 6-years-old, it wasn’t until she graduated University with a degree in Contemporary Music, that she began her journey as Cameron Hayes. Releasing her debut track alongside Dimension in 2019 named “Devotion”, this was followed with a string of releases before the pandemic hit and Cameron had a viral spell on Tiktok and Youtube, gaining millions of views on both platforms. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Matt Bellamy [Muse], Thom Yorke [Radiohead], James Blake and Sampha, as well as Mitski, Little Dragon, Rufus Du Sol, and Banks – Cameron Hayes finds comfort in voices whose emotion is shown through their tone.
Continuing the momentum, Hayes collaborated with hit-maker Wilkinson and Sub Focus on a track called “Enter Night” as part of their collaborative album. Following a brief hiatus in 2023 after parting ways with her old manager and going through some health issues, Cameron Hayes returned to music last year with her second EP ‘Second Best’ featuring fan-favourite “Spend The Night” which landed the cover of Spotify’s ‘Massive Drum and Bass’ playlist which has since amassed millions of streams across DSP’s.
