Kanya King CBE Lands Bold Woman Award Nod as MOBO Turns 30

As MOBO Awards approaches its 30th anniversary, founder Kanya King CBE has been shortlisted for the Bold Woman Award by Veuve Clicquot 2026, recognising women shaping the future of business and culture.

King launched MOBO in 1996, building what would become one of Europe’s most established platforms celebrating music of Black origin. Over three decades, the awards have grown alongside wider conversations around representation in the British music industry, with MOBO often positioned at the centre of that shift.

Beyond the ceremony itself, the organisation has expanded into education and talent development initiatives, engaging thousands of young creatives each year. Its associated funding programmes have also supported emerging artists at early stages of their careers, reflecting a broader commitment to industry access and sustainability.

The timing of the nomination coincides with a reflective moment for MOBO, as it marks three decades of cultural influence in the UK. King’s work has increasingly extended beyond music into wider creative and entrepreneurial spaces, including the launch of House of MOBO, a concept exploring food, heritage, and community through an African and Caribbean lens.

While the Veuve Clicquot Bold Woman Award has long spotlighted female entrepreneurship on a global scale, King’s inclusion this year speaks to a legacy rooted as much in cultural impact as in business achievement.
