The 80s Are Back — And Mithridate Wants You To Look
The Instagram trend, or is it the ChatGPT trend? The 80s hairstyle? Either way, here we have MITHRIDATE. For Spring/Summer 2027, Creative Director Daniel Fletcher takes us back to the world of the New Romantics, where dressing up meant breaking the rules. Think Blitz Club energy, military references, theatrical costumes, sharp tailoring and a lot of attitude.
And honestly, it’s giving 80s/90s Hong Kong movies. There is something wonderfully familiar about the sharp shoulders, oversized tailoring, striped scarves, preppy rugby references and unexpected colour combinations. Hot pink with red, blue with green, navy with black — somehow, it all works.
Our favourite detail? The brooches. Used almost like wearable art, they make the looks feel more personal, elegant and elevated without trying too hard. Then there are the tutus, micro shorts, military-inspired pieces, cummerbunds, glossy leather accessories and Noel Stewart’s statement millinery. It is maximalist, but never feels like it is trying too hard to be maximalist.
That, for me, is what makes Mithridate interesting this season. It takes the eccentricity of the New Romantics but makes it feel surprisingly wearable today.
It’s not really a meme brand.
But it will definitely make you look.
And perhaps that’s the point: take the clothes, mix them up, make them your own — and have a little fun with fashion again.
